Dear Friends,
Thank you for visiting our website here at First Presbyterian Church of Evanston. While you might be interested in knowing that we have been here in Evanston for 140 years, we especially want you to know that we are a vital and welcoming family of faith. There are four important things we want you to know about us.
First, it is our greatest joy to preach the message of the saving grace of Jesus Christ. We are a church that takes the Bible’s message to heart and rejoices in God’s invitation to come to Him for forgiveness and reconciliation. We worship with a variety of styles of music, we pray expectantly, and we seek to know God personally through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Second, we have a vision for making disciples. We want to be a place where people can grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. We offer many opportunities for learning: community groups for fellowship and growth, educational opportunities for all ages and at all times of the week, and special gatherings of many kinds.
Third, we want to be a people who serve others in God’s world. We value not only belief in Christ but also action that helps others. We have a variety of ministries that serve others, including short-term mission projects for youth and adults, our weekly Souper Saturday (a ministry to the hungry in Evanston for over 25 years), our Deacons Clothes Closet and others.
Finally, knowing that we cannot do this on our own, we rely upon the Holy Spirit to lead us into the future.
I hope that you will not only explore these web pages to get to know us, but that you will come and worship with us. We have a slogan here: Come for a Visit, Stay for a Journey. Welcome!
