Rev. Dr. Barbour founded Shalom Ministries and Community in 1975 to help those with personal histories of pain and violence gain spiritual reconciliation. As a Christ-centered community, Shalom Ministries seeks to establish justice, peace, and reconciliation through God’s grace. In Chicago, Shalom trains seminarians, mission personnel, and local congregations interested in cross-cultural missions and ministries. Shalom emphasizes “mission-in-reverse”—the concept that ministers learn from the people they serve.
