Good News Partners, located within a ten-square
block area north of Howard Street and directly south of Evanston,
works to extend the redemptive power of Christ’s love to
the homeless. GNP provides emergency and long-term housing, community
building activities, faith development, and addiction counseling.
Classes, including GED, ESL and apprenticeship programs, help
adults acquire the education needed to obtain a job. GNP’s
Day Care center offers children’s programs, including tutoring,
art therapy, and “Fearbusters” bicycle squad. The
Good News Kitchen serves hot meals to the Howard Street community
members. Good News Partners seeks to build bridges of justice
and reconciliation between the rich and poor within this changing
neighborhood. Families displaced by the encroaching gentrification
in GNP’s immediate vicinity question how they can continue
to survive here. As monthly rents continue to escalate, GNP strives
to extend God’s mercy to the poor by helping to maintain
a Howard Street neighborhood that is both racially and economically
diverse.
