Stephen Ministry

Where do you go…

…after you find the pink slip in what’s now your final paycheck;

…after the doctors have given their diagnosis of a serious illness or said there’s nothing more they can do;

…after the relationship ends, but the wounds are still bleeding;

…after family and friends have heard your story one too many times, but you still need to talk it out?

That's when Stephen Ministers can step in.

A free and confidential service, Stephen Ministry serves people who are struggling with a special need or going through a difficult time. Each person is paired with a lay person who has been trained as a Stephen Minister to offer Christian support and care. As one grateful person said “This is someone who’s going to walk beside you. They’re going to hold your hand the whole way. If you want to talk, you can. If you just want to sit and cry, that’s fine. If you want prayer, they’ll pray. But they’re not going to come and hit your over the head with answers.”

If you’re going through a difficult time in your life, we invite you to call Alice Rubash, 847 864-2247 to learn how you can have a Stephen Minister.

Training:

Perhaps you remember a time when you experienced Christ’s presence through someone unexpected; someone who extended care and comfort through a listening ear? If so, you may remember how thankful you were to God for providing that person. If you’ve ever wanted to be that person for someone else, please consider becoming a Stephen Minister.

The 2010 Training Class will begin with a ½ day retreat Saturday, September 11 and continues on Monday evenings through December 13. Topics include: how to become a good listener; how to be process oriented, not results oriented in caring; an understanding of crisis in a person’s life; boundary setting; and how to give Christian care and much more.
