Souper Saturday
Since 1983, First Pres has supported Souper Saturday in providing hot meals to the needy in the Evanston area. Food is prepared by a team of volunteers who meet at the church on Friday mornings. At 9 a.m. on Saturday morning, another team of volunteers comes to set-up the lunch and a third team gathers just before 11:30 a.m. to serve the meal to our guests. Second servings are offered at 12:15 p.m.
As our guests leave the church they are offered a sack lunch provided by the Moveable Feast Ministry of St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Evanston.
At 1:00 p.m. there is a Bible study offered for all of our guests in the Youth Lounge. This is an opportunity to learn more about the christian faith and to receive support through prayer and friendship.
There is also a fourth team that works for Souper Saturday: contributors. We spend about a dollar fifty per guest, or about $195 per Saturday.
