Femi Adeleye: NIFES

Femi is from Nigeria. He grew up attending a Baptist Church and gave his life to Christ at the age of 13. Having been active as a student leader in NIFES (the IFES movement in Nigeria) while at university in Ahmadu Bello University in Kano, Femi joined the NIFES staff team as a travelling secretary in 1980.

On completion of an MA in Christian History and Theology at Wheaton College, USA in 1986, Femi served for 18 months as campus staff with IVCF USA in Chicago. During that time, he pioneered evangelistic outreach to international students in Chicago and built bridges for partnership with local churches to strengthen the student ministry. He was then invited to return to Nigeria as National Director of NIFES - a position which he held until 1993 when, in preparation for joining the IFES English- and Portuguese-speaking Africa (EPSA) regional staff team, Femi spent a year studying for an MTh at the Centre for the Study of Christianity in the Non-Western World in Edinburgh, Scotland. On completion of his study, Femi returned to Nigeria and in 2000 was appointed as IFES Regional Secretary for EPSA.

Since then he has continued to build partnerships within the IFES family and with like-minded people and organizations committed to the vision of student ministry. In July 2008, Femi was appointed as Associate General Secretary for Partnership and Collaboration. Affy, his wife, continues to work with IFES in EPSA coordinating the HIV/AIDS ministry. Femi and Affy live in Ghana and have four children: Remi, Philip, Olive-Kemi and Emmanuel.
