Greetings from Congo's OrphansCongo Focus Group

Join the Congo Focus Group to give encouragement to the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and to receive encouragement from them. To become involved in the Congo Focus Group: Contact Tom or Jan Sullivan at 847-475-4052.

The Congo Focus Group exists to:

  • Support the work of the Congo’s Presbyterian Church, especially its schools, women’s and orphan’s ministries, health ministries and Communication Center.
  • Develop relationships with the Congolese through visits and involvement in mutual Christian ministries
  • Educate our congregation and others about the social and political conditions in the Congo, both past and present
  • Advocate for improved conditions in the Congo
  • Network with appropriate Congo support groups that work for the improvement of conditions in the Congo.

Congolese Presbyterian Women's Choir, KanangaThe Presbyterian Church of the Congo (CPC) and of Kinshasa (CPK) are providing wonderful services to bring hope and Christ to the Congo. Our church is partnering with the Congo churches through the Education Excellence Project, through the Presbyterian Women's mosquito net project, micro-enterprise projects for women and through establishing a Communication Center in Kananga. You can support the Congolese by joining the Congo Team or calling Caryl Weinberg at ext. 264 or Jan Sullivan, 847-475-4052, to learn what you can do.

Please consider purchasing a beautiful handmade necklace for $10 to support the Presbyterian Schools of the Congo. Contact Barbara Spencer to find out more.

The level of violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and its impact on the country and its people is appalling. The Congo Focus Group of FPCE is providing links here to some legitimate advocacy organizations that are providing ways to help the Congo. Please read their information and decide how you will respond. Listing these organizations does not mean that First Presbyterian Church of Evanston endorses all of the recommended actions. The choice of actions is yours, but please act; the Congolese need you!

Please read "Peace Strategies for the DRC" and send your legislators the letters below to urge support for the Congo. Contact Tom Sullivan for more information at 847-475-4052.
