On the way to worship at the Detention Center
Prison Ministries

Prison ministry volunteers at First Pres are very active in many ways that relate to prisoners and their families.

In partnership with a number of individuals and organizations, this group drives children monthly to visit their incarcerated mothers, and has periodic outings with children of prisoners to give their caretakers a break.

Volunteers also lead prayer and Bible study time at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center (CCJTDC) during the week, and lead Sunday worship at the CCJTDC on occasional Sundays during the year.

Some volunteers participate in four day retreats (called Kairos) at maximum security prisons.

You are invited to join! Find out more about specific programs you can get involved with!

Family Connections Program of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (serving the family members of the incarcerated)

Good News Jail & Prison Ministry (visiting and serving in the jail)

Kairos Prison Ministry (giving through gifts of hospitality)

For more information on getting involved in any of these programs, please contact Ed Moor or 312-371-0181.
